With these characteristics, Kefalonia this year it took first place in the preference of the British as the best Greek island. The largest consumer research organization “Which?” asked more than 1,000 Britons who have visited the country over the past two years to rate the 10 most popular Greek islands.

In particular, the study included eight rated categories: beaches, food and drink, quality of accommodation, tourist attractions, natural beauty, shopping, peace and quiet, and finally, value for money.

The islands participating in order of preference were:

• Lefkas,
• Skiathos,
• Crete,
• Corfu,
• Kos,
• Zakynthos,
• Rhodes,
• Santorini and
• Mykonos.

Made famous by Captain Corelli’s mandolin, the island even surpassed Lefkada, which was in first place last year with an overall score of 85%, with the poll showing it was the only island to score 5/5 in the tranquility category. . “Frenzy” Mykonos was in last place with 55%, mostly due to crowds and high prices.

Tellingly, 4.5 million Britons visited Greece in 2022, surpassing for the first time the number of German tourists in the country, who have held the lead for decades.

This trend is expected to continue in 2023 as Greece remains in the top three tourist destinations after Spain and France.
