Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s children will have princely titles.

It was still not known if Harry and Meghan (who stepped down as princes in March 2020) wanted princely titles for their two little ones, but the couple finally used the title publicly for the first time to announce their daughter’s christening.

“I can confirm that Princess Lilibet Diana was christened on Friday, March 3rd by the Archbishop of Los Angeles, The Honorable John Taylor,” a spokesperson for the couple said.

Under royal protocol, the monarch’s grandchildren can receive the titles of prince and princess, meaning three-year-old Archie and one-year-old Lilibeth are eligible to use them after Harry’s father Charles became king last September.

The rule was established in 1917 by then-King George V and provides that these titles may be passed to them by the monarch’s grandchildren, but not by his great-grandchildren.

Buckingham Palace commented that it would “over time” update the website to include the names Archie and Lillibet.

Meghan said in an interview two years ago that the British royal family refused to give her son a title and that a racist comment was made about how dark his skin could be.

Meghan and Harry’s youngest daughter’s baptism comes just days after King Charles evicted the couple from Elizabeth’s home in Britain, Frogmore Cottage. However, he invited them to his coronation ceremony, which is scheduled for early May.

It is currently unknown if they will be “present”.
