Billionaire Warren Buffett is known for being “thrifty” in certain aspects of his life.

The 92-year-old CEO of Berkshire Hathaway has lived in the same house for 65 years. This is a five-bedroom home in downtown Omaha, Nebraska that he bought for $31,500 in 1958. Today, this is equivalent to approximately $329,000.

“He’s real,” says CNBC’s Becky Quick, who has long been in touch with Buffett and often interviews him. “The authenticity of Warren Buffett is really ubiquitous because he lives his life.”

Buffett often enthuses about the benefits of homeownership, and in a 2010 shareholder letter, he named his home as the third best investment he’s ever made (his two “biggest investments” were wedding rings).

The 610 square meter home sits on a corner lot just five minutes from the Berkshire Hathaway headquarters. The original 1921 building had some additions and its value today is estimated at about $1.2 million.This is reported by the real estate agency Zillow.

Buffett has no plans to move to a more luxurious home. “I’m happy there. I’d move if I thought I’d be happier somewhere else,” he told the BBC in 2009. “This house is fine,” says Buffett. cool, I’m fine with that. I couldn’t imagine a better home.”

Although he is worth about $106 billion, Buffett is not extravagant in his personal life. In 2020 alone, he traded a $20 flip phone for an iPhone 11. He is also known to never spend more than $4 on breakfast. During his five-minute drive to the office, Buffett usually stops by and buys breakfast at McDonald’s, sometimes ordering two hot dogs for $2.61, sometimes sausages, an egg, and cheese for $2.95, and sometimes an egg, bacon, and cheese for $3. 17 dollars.
