Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov said on Thursday that Russia would not be the first to test a nuclear device after Moscow suspended participation in the New Nuclear Arms Control Treaty with the United States of America.
Speaking to reporters at the Russian mission in Geneva after a disarmament conference, Ryabkov said Moscow would not conduct tests if Washington in turn refrained, but Russia still needed to prepare for the worst, Reuters and Agerpres reported.
Ryabkov also accused the US of providing Ukraine with information on the location of strategic objects on the territory of Russia in order to attack them with the help of drones.
In December, the Russian Engels Air Base near the city of Saratov, where part of the fleet of nuclear strategic bombers is located and located at least 600 km from the territory of Ukraine, was attacked by drones.
Ukraine has not claimed responsibility for the attacks, but noted them, Reuters reminds.
