Qatargate: Kylie can’t leave Belgium, says Dimitrakopoulos

An appeal filed by Eva Kylie to be released from a restrictive prison will be heard next Friday, March 3rd.

Her case was previously heard in the Brussels Court of Appeal, as was the Marc Tarabella case, and it appears that the Belgian judiciary still believes that Eva Kylie could leave the country if she is released from prison and they are wary of trying to change information or contact other suspects .

According to ERT, lawyer Michalis Dimitrakopoulos, defender of Eva Kylie, allegedly argued during the hearing that his client cannot leave Belgium because she is “known everywhere” and “they immediately know who she is.” Eva Kylie reportedly focused on her underage child and also mentioned the role she herself played in the EU.

Eva Kylie’s partner Francesco Giorgi was arrested on December 9 and released with restrictive conditions and a “bracelet” following a decision of the pre-trial board on February 23.

In a recent interview with ERT, Eva Kylie’s new lawyer, Sven Marie, insisted that the MEP is not going to have evidence disappear if she is released on parole.

“I think there are 2,500 pages in the case file, the investigation is moving forward. I don’t know what can disappear. I believe there is no evidence that he could have made them disappear,” said Mr Marie. Regarding her possible interactions with other “participants” or witnesses in the case, Ms Kylie’s lawyer remarked that “it could have happened a long time ago.”

“First, Mrs. Kylie she has a cell phonelike the other inmates in the prison. If at some point they want to chat with other people (….), he has a phone and he can do it. But he didn’t. We need to know that all her phone calls are being recorded and tapped by the police. I believe that today, in the case of a matter of concern to us, Ms. Kylie should not have remained in custody all these months.”

“She could easily, after waiting for other people’s hearings, she could be registered in her own home. So she will be able to see her child every day. I think it’s important. We are talking about a child who will soon be two years old.”
