
OUR Turk Foreign Secretary Mevlut Cavusoglu announced today that he is negotiating with Sweden and Finland regarding their accession to NATO they will resume on March 9 after being postponed in January due to protests against the burning of the Koran.
Speaking in Ankara, Cavusoglu said that the meeting will be held in Brussels and the implementation of the memorandum signed by the countries will be discussed.
Recall that negotiations between the three countries have been suspended since January by the decision of Ankara.
Finland: we go hand in hand with Sweden
Recall, Finnish President Sauli Niinistö said on Wednesday that Finland and Sweden go “hand in hand” to join NATO, but the decision to ratify their requests remains with Turkey.
However, he indicated that Finland would continue to join the Alliance once it was approved, even if Sweden’s bid was delayed.
The Finnish President also stressed that he would sign the bill on NATO accession when it was approved by the Finnish parliament and the vote was scheduled for 28 February.
