War in Ukraine: Cold reception from NATO and the EU to the Chinese peace plan

NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg reacted cautiously to China’s proposal for a ceasefire in Ukraine on Friday, saying Beijing does not have much credibility as a mediator.

“China doesn’t have a lot of credibility because it can’t condemn the illegal invasion of Ukraine,” he told reporters in Tallinn, adding that Beijing had signed an agreement with Russian President Vladimir Putin days before the invasion.

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said that China does not share the peace plan, but some principles.

“We have to look at this in a certain context, namely in the context that China has already taken a position in favor of one of the parties, signing, for example, an agreement on “limitless friendship” right before the invasion of Ukraine. he noted.

“Therefore, of course, we will look at the authorities, but we will look at them against the background of the fact that China has gone one way,” he added.
