Beijing is considering supplying weapons to Russia to support its attack on Ukraine, US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken, who met with his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi on Saturday, warned today.
“We talked about the war being waged by Russia and that we have concerns that China is considering providing lethal support to Russia,” the US Secretary of State told CBS. When asked what exactly that would include, Anthony Blinken replied, “Mostly weapons.”
The two men met on Saturday night in Munich on the sidelines of a security conference, a meeting that American diplomacy called “frank and direct.”
The US Secretary of State warned of “consequences and consequences” for China if it offers “material support” to Russia or helps it evade Western sanctions, State Department spokesman Ned Price said summing up the meeting.
US Vice President Kamala Harris, who was present yesterday in Munich, also questioned China’s neutrality.
The United States is “concerned that Beijing has deepened its relationship with Moscow since the start of the war,” he stressed.
“Any move by China to provide deadly support for Russia will only reward the aggression, continue the carnage, and further undermine the rules-based order,” the U.S. Vice President warned.
