Superliga: Olympiacos comfortably outperformed Lamia

With a serious and measured appearance, but also too many missed opportunities, Olympiacos easily beat Lamia 3-0 at Athanassios Diakos in the 23rd match of the Super League, continuing a 15-game unbeaten streak (10-5 -0).

Goals by Samaseku, Bakaba and Biel did their job for the Red-Whites, who also scored three goals each (Huang, Canos, Bakaba) and again reduced the gap from the leader of Panathinaikos to 5 points, although they played without James Rodriguez. (was ruled out as a precaution to be ready for war in the “eternal” derby on Saturday 25 February). Lamia still “failed” to the last place in the standings, which is already the 17th match in a row without a win (5 draws, 12 losses).

In the debut of Leonidas Vokolou on his bench, Lamia had the first important moment of the match in the 4th minute, when Romanik Tsandaris shot through traffic outside the penalty area, the ball hit the crossbar.

Since then, the game has become… a monologue for Piraeus, who began to miss one opportunity after another. Firstly, with Fortunis’s shot at the 15th minute, which went wide, but even more so with a quadruple (!) big phase at the 22nd minute. Bakabu handed it to Fortunis, who was opposite Garavelis. He “dug” the ball and beat him, but Cornesos cut along the line. Biel then fired and Garaveli parried the blow. Bacabu got another rebound but Cornesos cut through the line again and at the end Garavelis blocked (also) a Canos header.

In the 35th minute, Huang had an excellent long-range shot at the joint of the posts, and in the 43rd minute, the same result (horizontal bar) had a long-range volley of Canos. In the end, the decision for Olympiacos was left to Samasek with a very good and “weighted” shot outside the penalty area, which did not leave much room for Garavelis, making it 1-0 to Piraeus.

In the second half, the Red-Whites completely controlled the pace and scored another goal thanks to a beautiful setting by Bakabu in the 60th minute, who made it 2-0 after a beautiful vertical pass from Canos. Olympiacos also scored the third goal against Bacabu in the 78th minute after Biel’s goal, and in the 86th minute Biel put the finishing touch to the game by making it 3-0 with a classy penalty after El Heel Arabi.
