Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov said in an interview today that Russia will achieve its goals in Ukraine before the end of the year and that it would be a mistake to negotiate with President Vladimir Zelensky.
Kadyrov’s forces played a prominent role in the war in Ukraine, and the Chechen leader himself unofficially entered into an “alliance” with Wagner chief Yevgeny Prigozhin and other war-supporting hardliners.
In an interview with the state TV channel Rossiya-1, Kadyrov said that Russia had the strength to capture the Ukrainian capital Kyiv, Ukraine’s second largest city Kharkiv and its main port Odessa.
“I believe that by the end of the year we will 100% fulfill our current task,” Kadyrov said.
“If we sit down at the negotiating table with Zelensky, yes, I think it will be a mistake,” he continued.
Kadyrov is a former Chechen separatist who switched sides in the late 1990s and joined the pro-Russian government of the troubled Caucasus region along with his extended family.
Russian President Vladimir Putin appointed Kadyrov head of Chechnya in 2007.
