Google employees criticize the leadership and personally the CEO of the company, Sundar Pichai, for the fact that the “competitor” of the ChatGPT artificial intelligence system, the Bard system, was announced this week.

According to posts and memes reviewed and cited by CNBC, staff members wrote on the memegen internal forum calling Bard’s presentation rushed and reckless.

On Monday, Google quickly revealed details about the company’s chatbot, a day before Microsoft’s Bing event. On Wednesday, at an event in Paris, Bard’s additional powers were revealed.

Between the two Google events, Microsoft demonstrated how its Bing search engine will integrate conversational search technology with artificial intelligence systems by inviting journalists to a demo at the company’s headquarters in Redmond, Washington. Microsoft is now investing billions in OpenAI, the company that created ChatGPT.

During the second Google event on Wednesday, head of search Prabhakar Raghavan briefly presented several slides with examples of Bard’s capabilities. “People who logged in expected to hear more, and some employees didn’t even know about the event,” writes CNBC. The host forgot to bring the phone he needed for the show.

Meanwhile, Twitter users pointed out that Bard’s advert misrepresented the telescope that took the first pictures of a planet outside our solar system.

Googlers often turn to the meme to poke fun at events and situations at the company, but posts following Bard’s statement “drawn a more serious response, and some of them were personal to Pichai,” CNBC notes.
