He stressed that the conflict “shows no signs” that it is moving towards de-escalation.

Griffiths said at least 7,000 civilians have been killed since the Russian military invaded Ukraine on February 24, 2022, according to figures verified by the UN. However, “the actual death toll is undoubtedly higher,” he stressed.

As the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) notes, the war in Ukraine has caused the largest migration crisis since the Second World War.
