According to Reuters, the episode titled “One Angry Lisa”, which first aired on TV in October, is no longer available on the Disney Plus streaming platform in Hong Kong.
This is the second time that an episode of the series has not been included on the platform. In 2021, Disney removed an episode that mentioned the 1989 Tiananmen Square protests.
In One Angry Lisa, there is a scene in which Marge Simpson is taking an online cycling lesson, and the narrator, in front of images of the Great Wall of China, says, “Here are the wonders of China: bitcoin mines, forced labor camps where kids make smartphones.”
China has faced allegations of mistreatment and forced labor of the Uyghur community and other Muslim minorities in mass detention centers in the northwestern region of Xinjiang.
A UN report last year accused Beijing of “serious human rights violations” that could amount to “crimes against humanity.” Beijing has denied accusations of human rights violations in Xinjiang.
