At least 22 people have died and more than 550 have been injured in more than 250 wildfires raging in central Chile amid intense heat, according to the latest count announced by the authorities.
Of the 251 active outbreaks, 80 remain out of control, according to the National Disaster Prevention and Response Agency (Senapred).
Among the dead are a Bolivian pilot and a Chilean engineer of a helicopter that crashed while fighting a fire.
Chile simultaneously suffers from extreme heat when temperatures reach 40ÂșC. Authorities fear conditions could repeat the tragedy of 2017, when a massive wildfire killed 11 people, completely destroyed more than 1,500 homes and reduced hundreds of thousands of acres of forest to ash.
