The US military launched a raid in northern Somalia, during which one of the leaders of the jihadist organization “Islamic State” was killed.
US officials, speaking on condition of anonymity, told Reuters that Bilal al-Sudani, one of the leaders of ISIS in Somalia, was killed along with 10 other militants of the jihadist group.
The green light for the operation was given by US President Joe Biden, and the raid was launched within 24 hours, the same sources said.
They declined to elaborate on the details of the military operation, except that there were no reports of civilian casualties.
