Former US President Donald Trump on Thursday spoke out against sending tanks to Ukraine, saying that there would be nuclear weapons after that and calling for an end to the war.
“FIRST THE TANKS COME, THEN THE NUCLEAR WEAPONS. Stop this insane war NOW. It’s so easy,” the former Republican president tweeted on Truth Social, the social network he launched in October 2021 after major US social media platforms blocked his accounts following the deadly riot at the Capitol in Washington.
His comments were immediately picked up by the Russian mass media.
“Former US President Donald Trump said that the transfer of tanks to Kiev by Western countries could provoke the outbreak of a nuclear conflict, so it is necessary to stop military operations in Ukraine as soon as possible,” TASS reports on Thursday afternoon, the most famous press reports. agency of the Russian state
“The transfer of the Leopard-2 and Abrams tanks to Ukraine by the Western allies may cause the explosion of a nuclear war. Former US President Donald Trump warned about such a risk,” writes Lenta, one of Russia’s most popular news sites.
The largest Russian financial channel RBC, in turn, notes that “former US President Donald Trump opposed the supply of tanks to Ukraine: he believes that nuclear weapons may follow.”
“According to Trump, stopping the war is easy. The 45th president of the USA expressed his opinion in his social network Truth Social. Trump has repeatedly called for negotiations on the cessation of hostilities in Ukraine, otherwise the world will enter a world war,” RBC notes.
Trump said that Ukraine should have made a “deal” with Putin
RBC journalists also recall the statements of the former Republican president at the end of July last year, when in an episode of the Clay Travis and Buck Sexton Show podcast, he said that Volodymyr Zelensky should have resigned in Crimea and the idea of joining NATO in order to negotiate with the Russians.
“They should have at least made a deal. He could give up Crimea. He could have done something with NATO, “OK, we’re not going to join NATO,” and then you’d have a country, because I think Putin wanted to make a deal. And I think that now he does not want to make a deal. I think it’s much harder to make a deal. He undermines everything. I mean, he’s going to take the whole seat,” Donald Trump said.
The former American president also said that “it is very, very sad what happened to Ukraine. It’s very, very sad,” adding that Ukrainians “need to come to an agreement before everything is over. You have hundreds of thousands of people who are dead and maimed – some maimed.’
His new comments came after Joe Biden announced on Wednesday that he would send 31 Abrams tanks to Ukraine, his statement came after German Chancellor Olaf Scholz officially confirmed that Berlin would deploy a company of 14 Leopold 2 tanks for the Kyiv forces.
Scholz also announced that his government would approve any transfer of Leopard tanks from allied nations willing to help Ukraine, with several states already expressing their intention to do so.
