“There is no national security issue more important than the fact that we, together with Finland, are rapidly becoming members of NATO,” Kristerson told reporters.

Christerson said he wants to return to a functional dialogue about joining the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. If we do not have a functional dialogue, it will be more difficult for Sweden to join NATO, and this will have consequences for the country’s security, he stressed.

“I want to resume a working dialogue with Turkey,” he stressed, criticizing “provocateurs” who are trying to destabilize Sweden’s candidacy and calling for “calm” in the face of a “serious” situation.

The Swedish Prime Minister also said that his country needed full NATO membership in order to have the security guarantee provided by Article 5.

Turkey postpones tripartite talks indefinitely

The above-mentioned statements by the Prime Minister of Sweden came shortly after Ankara’s request to postpone indefinitely trilateral talks with Sweden and Finland on the two countries’ accession to NATO.
