The war in Ukraine – the Baltic states – to Berlin: “Leopard” to Kyiv to give now

The foreign ministers of the three Baltic states today urged Germany “now” to supply Ukraine with Leopard heavy tanks to help it repel the Russian offensive.

“We, the Foreign Ministers of Latvia, Estonia and Lithuania, ask Germany to continue to provide Leopard tanks to Ukraine,” Latvian Foreign Minister Edgars Rinkevics tweeted.

“This is necessary to stop the Russian attack, help Ukraine and quickly restore peace in Europe,” he added, stressing that “Germany, as the first European power, bears a special responsibility in this regard.”

Ukraine’s allies, who gathered yesterday, Friday, in Ramstein, Germany, announced large new arms deliveries to Kyiv.

However, it was not possible to agree on the delivery of heavy tanks, dashing the hopes of Kyiv, which requested them immediately and now must wait for further negotiations and a “green light” from Germany.

Kyiv: “Hurry up”

Volodymyr Zelensky, senior adviser to the President of Ukraine, today urged Kyiv’s allies to “think fast” about increasing their military support for Ukraine, a day after they failed to agree on sending tanks requested by Kyiv.

“You will still help Ukraine with the necessary weapons and understand that there is no other way out than the defeat of Russia, as the end of the war,” Mikhail Podolyak wrote on Twitter.

“But today’s indecision is killing more of our people. Every day of delay means the death of Ukrainians. Think fast,” he stressed.

Ukraine’s partners this week pledged hundreds of millions of dollars in new military aid, but during a conference held on Friday at Germany’s Ramstein Air Base, they failed to agree on sending German-made Leopard 2 tanks, which Kyiv has been asking for for a long time.
