Donald Trump: asks to be allowed to return to Facebook

Donald Trump has formally asked to be allowed back on Facebook, his campaign team announced today, urging the presidential candidate not to be “silenced.”

A lawyer for the former US president and current presidential candidate sent a letter to the founder of the platform, Mark Zuckerberg, asking for a “meeting to discuss the imminent return” of Donald Trump to the social network.

“We believe that the suspension of President Trump’s Facebook account has fundamentally distorted and limited public debate,” Scott Gast said in a letter sent Tuesday.

In continuation, the lawyer for the former US president calls on the platform to “promote genuine dialogue, not silence the presidential candidate.”

The former Republican leader was banned from using the social network for two years after his supporters attacked the Capitol on January 6, 2021 in Washington.

Asked by AFP today, a spokesman for Meta, Facebook’s parent company, promised to make a decision on the fate of the former president “in the coming weeks.”

Trump returned to Twitter on November 19, 2022. However, he has yet to post any messages on his account as he continues to communicate primarily through his own platform called Truth Social.
