The head of Ukrainian diplomacy, Dmytro Kuleba, says that the “Russian factor” will disappear from Hungarian politics as soon as Ukraine defeats Russia in the war, writes RBC Ukraine.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine did this after being asked by RBC journalists about which European countries surprised him the most this year after Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered an invasion of his country on February 24.

“I was surprised by the European Union as a whole. For the first time, it began to finance the supply of weapons to a third country. The EU was created so that there would never be a war in Europe and that instead of funding defense, money would go to finance trade, social services and infrastructure,” he replied.

“What the EU has done this year is not even a rollback, it’s a revolution. Many countries surprised me with something, and not only in Europe. But it would be unfair to talk about someone and at the same time not mention others,” Kuleba added.

What the head of Ukrainian diplomacy says about Hungary

When asked if he was negatively surprised by Hungary’s attitude after the start of the war, he replied that:

“I was not surprised at all. It just amazes me that they are so forthright in their statements. Orbán’s latest statement is: stop the supply of weapons and the war will stop.

Speaking about Budapest’s repeated threats to block the sanctions packages prepared by the EU against Russia, Dmytro Kuleba said that “actually, the damage was only in small nuances related to the sanctions, when the Hungarians deleted some individuals and businesses from the sanctions lists.”

“In everything else… This is their struggle with the European Commission, they are fighting for their money and sometimes in this struggle they take Ukraine hostage. And besides, ideologically there is a coincidence in the understanding of the laws of history between Orban and Putin, which is why all these statements and comments appear,” the head of Ukrainian diplomacy also noted.

“I have no strategic concerns about this, because after the victory of Ukraine, the Russian factor will disappear from Hungarian politics and there will be other statements,” concluded Dmytro Kuleba.
