
Kenyan John New Kibe, 24, died while working as a security guard at the World Cup in Qatar, according to The Guardian.
In particular, Kibe fell from the eighth floor of the Lusail stadium late at night after Argentina’s victory over the Netherlands in Saturday’s quarter-finals.
The World Cup organizer announced that Kibbe had died after three days in intensive care and that an investigation into the circumstances of his death would be carried out.
“On Saturday, December 10, John New Kibe, a security guard at Lusail Stadium, fell from a great height while on duty,” the organization said in a statement, adding that “despite the efforts of the medical team, Kibe passed away. in the hospital on Tuesday, December 13, after a three-day stay in the intensive care unit. His relatives have been informed,” he added.
The statement also notes that the organizers of the tournament in Qatar are investigating the circumstances leading to the fall of the 24-year-old football player, and will provide additional information when the investigation is completed.
The incident took place around 2 am. An eyewitness told the Guardian that Kibe fell from his seat near the 30th gate of the stadium.
Kibe’s family asks for clarification on the circumstances of the tragedy. “We learned on Tuesday morning that Kibe had died,” his sister told the Standard newspaper. “We are devastated,” he added.
