The new cost will be $75 per month, down from $60.

This step happened after, on August 24, when Ukraine celebrated Independence Day, Elon Musk announced a significant reduction in the price of a Starlink subscription, which at that time was $100 in Ukraine.

“The monthly cost of the Starlink service will increase from $60 to $75. The new price will apply to your subscription from December 29, 2022. If you do not want to continue using this service, you can cancel it at any time,” says the letter that Mask company sent to its subscribers in Ukraine.

The price hike comes after SpaceX warned the Pentagon last month that it could no longer fund the Starlink system in Ukraine and that it may stop offering the service to the country, which Vladimir Putin invaded on February 24.

SpaceX told the Pentagon that it could end the service if it did not pay several tens of millions of dollars every month.

Internet through Starlink, vital for the Ukrainian military

The Ukrainian presidency responded that Ukraine would look for a way to continue supporting the Starlink service, but Musk later changed his mind and said he would continue to fund it in Ukraine.

“With him… even if Starlink continues to lose money and other companies receive billions of taxpayer dollars, we will continue to fund the Ukrainian government for free,” he tweeted in mid-October.

Elon Musk already announced on February 27th, 3 days after Putin launched the war of aggression, that the satellite internet system was activated for Ukraine.

Numerous Ukrainian soldiers later recounted how this service was crucial to their troops at a turning point in the war, as Russian forces attempted to destroy Ukraine’s communications systems from day one of the invasion.

This was especially important for Ukrainian drone operators, who used Bayraktar TB2 drones to destroy numerous Russian armored convoys in the early days of the war, when the Russian army threatened Kyiv.
