From 2024, the UK will remove the 100ml liquid limit on air travel, according to information provided by the Times.

According to the publication, within two years, the cancellation of the rules according to which passengers cannot carry liquids larger than 100 ml and must remove laptops from hand luggage during airport screening is expected.

The 100 ml “rule” was introduced after a failed terrorist attack in 2006 and was initially seen as a temporary measure. The terrorists planned to blow up seven planes leaving Heathrow with liquid explosives they had “hidden” in soft drinks.

After the scheme was thwarted in early August 2006, nearly all carry-on baggage was banned from flying. Later that month, the rules were relaxed, but a complete ban on the sale of liquids remained in place until November of that year.

Finally, passengers were allowed to carry liquids up to 100 ml in a transparent plastic bag up to 20 by 20 cm. Many thought the rules would be relaxed, but they have remained strict for the past 16 years.
