Five people died and 18 were injured in an incident with executions at an LGBT nightclub on Saturday night (local time) in Colorado Springs, USA.
A suspect has been taken into police custody and is being treated for injuries following an attack at the Q Club, Colorado Springs Police Deputy Pamela Castro said at a news conference.
According to Castro, the first call about the incident came to the police just before midnight.
Upon arrival, law enforcement officers found the suspect in a nightclub.
Prior to 4:00 (13:00 Greek time), police cordoned off the area around a nightclub located in a shopping strip on the outskirts of Colorado Springs.
Footage from the scene following the shooting shows emergency vehicles with flashing lights parked outside a nightclub.
The Google listing in the Club Q description states that it is “an adult gay and lesbian nightclub that hosts themed nights such as karaoke, drag shows and DJ performances.”
On his Facebook Club page, Q stated that he was “devastated by the senseless attack on our community… Thank you for the quick response from the heroic customers who subdued the perpetrator and put an end to this hateful attack.”
The police did not provide any information about possible motives for the attack.
In 2016, a gunman killed 49 people at an LGBTQ nightclub in Orlando, Florida before being killed in a shootout with police. By then, it was the worst mass shooting in recent U.S. history.
The attacker declared his allegiance to the leader of the Islamic State group.
