McDonald’s restaurants in Belarus are due to be renamed in the deal, which was announced today, five months after the U.S. fast food chain pulled out of neighboring Russia due to his invasion of Ukraine.
Under the agreement, 25 McDonald’s restaurants in Belarus operating under a local license will be renamed Vkusno i Tochka, which translates as Vkusno i Tochno.
McDonald’s, having made the decision to cut ties with Russia because of its actions in Ukraine, sold its Russian restaurants in May to a Russian businessman who later renamed them Tasty and Tochka.
“Due to widespread local supply issues, the McDonald’s licensee is no longer able to continue operations in Belarus,” McDonald’s said in a statement. “As a result, the licensee will cease to operate as McDonald’s and will no longer carry the McDonald’s name or serve our menu.”
Vkusno i dotka said that the decision to work in Belarus, as well as in Russia, will keep more than 2,000 jobs in Belarus, “continuing to fulfill all previous obligations to employees.”
McDonald’s restaurants in Belarus will be renamed within “several weeks,” the company added, and will operate under the McDonald’s brand during the transition period.
