Kyiv Mayor: Temporary evacuation of citizens in case of power and water outages

The mayor of Kyiv urged residents of the Ukrainian capital to think about preparing for a temporary departure if water and electricity are cut off in the capital.

On Monday, the country will face a projected 32 percent electricity shortage, Sergei Kovalenko, CEO of YASNO, a major energy supplier in the capital, said on his Facebook page.

Mayor Vitali Klitschko urged residents to “think everything,” including a worst-case scenario where the capital runs out of electricity and water.

Residents should consider “spend some time” with friends or family outside the city, he said in a TV interview Saturday, in which he accused Russian President Vladimir Putin of deliberately targeting civilian infrastructure.

“His plan is for us to die, freeze or force us to leave our land so he can get it. This is what the striker wants to achieve, ”Klitschko added.

Meanwhile, an adviser to President Volodymyr Zelensky, Mykhailo Podolyak, said on Twitter that Ukraine will “stand up” despite Russian attacks on its energy infrastructure by centralizing air defense, protecting infrastructure and optimizing consumption to become one.
