Lithuania announced today the opening of its trade office in Taiwan’s capital, Taipei. Recall that about a year ago, Taiwan opened its own representative office in Vilnius.
“I am glad that we managed to open this office,” Osrin Armonaitė, Minister of Economy of Lithuania, told journalists in Vilnius.
The announcement of the opening of the office comes immediately after Taiwan announced that its investment fund would “invest” 3.5 million euros in a Lithuanian technology company.
Armonaite stressed today that her country is “not developing diplomatic relations” with Taiwan, but “trade relations.”
Vilnius drew China’s ire last year when it allowed Taiwan to open a representative office in Lithuania.
Last August, China announced that it would sever relations with Lithuania in the transport sector following a visit by the Lithuanian Vice Minister of Transport to Taiwan.
