A 51-year-old man originally from Albania, whose traces have disappeared since last Tuesday when he went to logging work in the mountains of Kerdiliya, near Thessaloniki, has been found dead. His body was discovered yesterday Sunday by police officers as part of a search, following the activation of a missing person’s service by Child’s Smile.
He was reportedly found with a thigh wound believed to have been inflicted by a chainsaw, but the circumstances of his death have not yet been clarified. Among others, the version that he was injured and left wounded at the scene is being considered.
According to police, the 51-year-old man was accompanied by a 59-year-old Greek, on whose behalf they went to the mountain, while the logging work was apparently illegal. Since it is assumed that the 59-year-old man is a “key” person to clarify the circumstances of the death of a foreigner, searches followed in his house, where cartridges were found, for which he was arrested. His 28-year-old son was also arrested for illegal possession of a knife. Both of them were brought to trial in an automatic procedure.
