Iran will not stand aside if it is proven that its drones are being used by Russia in the war in Ukraine, Iran’s foreign minister said on Monday, amid accusations that the Islamic Republic is supplying drones to Moscow to attack Ukraine, Reuters reported.

“If it is proven to us that Iranian drones are being used in Ukraine’s war against people, we should not remain indifferent,” state media quoted Hossein Amirabdollakhian as saying.

However, Amirabdollahian said that defense cooperation between Tehran and Moscow will continue.

Britain, France and Germany on Friday called on the United Nations to investigate allegations that Russia used drones of Iranian origin to attack Ukraine, allegedly in violation of a UN Security Council resolution.

Citing diplomats and officials, Reuters reported last week that, in addition to the new drones, Iran had also promised to supply Russia with missiles.

Volodymyr Zelenskyi said that Russia had ordered “about 2,000 Iranian Shahed missiles, kamikaze drones, to support the invasion of Ukraine after several military failures on the ground since early September.”

The president of Ukraine did not specify whether this figure includes the new order or the total number of Iranian drones purchased by Moscow from Tehran, some of which have already been used specifically for energy infrastructure purposes.

The European Union, the United States and the United Kingdom have imposed sanctions on the Iranian company that produces the Shahed drones and the organizations that supply them to the Russian armed forces.

10 Iranians training Russian soldiers have been killed in Ukrainian strikes in the war between Russia and Ukraine over the past week, a Ukrainian official told the KAN news agency on Friday, according to the Jerusalem Post.

The report comes as US and Ukrainian officials warn that the Iranians are training the Russians to use Iranian drones in Crimea.
