In Russia’s Kursk region, two lines of defense have been built on the border with Ukraine to resist a possible attack by Ukrainian forces, regional governor Roman Starovoit said on Sunday, quoted by AFP.
“This week, work on two lines of reinforced defense in the Kursk region was completed,” Starovoit wrote in Telegram, adding that the third line of defense should be built by November 5.
“We are ready to resist any attack on our territory,” he said.
In turn, the governor of the Belgorod region of Russia, which also borders Ukraine, announced on Saturday the start of construction of a defense line in his region.
“In the Belgorod region, we have started the construction of defensive fortifications,” Vyacheslav Gladkov reported on Telegram, posting photos of several pyramid-shaped concrete blocks installed on the outskirts of the village.
Russia, which has been on the offensive in Ukraine since late February, in mid-October condemned a “significant increase” in Ukrainian shelling of several Russian border regions, including Belgorod, as well as Kursk and Bryansk.
On Saturday, two people were killed when Ukrainians attacked infrastructure in the Belgorod region, and about 15,000 people were left without power for several hours, according to local authorities.
