Their wrath Italians became the reason for the cover of the new issue of The Economist magazine called “Welcome to Britain” (Greek “welcome to Britain”).

There is a sketch on the cover Outgoing British Prime Minister Liz Trussin clothes resembling a Roman centurion, wears a helmet, holds a pizza instead of a shield and … a spaghetti fork instead of a spear.

Italy’s ambassador to London, Inigo Lambertini, criticized the magazine, noting that it was “unfortunately” inspired by “the most trivial stereotypes” about Italy.

“While pasta and pizza are the most sought-after foods in the world as the second most industrialized country in Europe, on the next cover we invite you to choose from our aerospace, biotech, automotive sectors for a change. or the pharmaceutical industry,” the Italian ambassador wrote in a letter to the magazine, which he also posted on Twitter.

The British weekly in its article uses Italy more or less as an example to be avoided, referring to the political and economic crisis in the United Kingdom.

“The political instability that used to be Italy’s hallmark has completely infected the UK,” the editorial said, adding that “low growth and subservience to markets” now also characterize the two countries.

Of course, the Economist report finds the comparisons partly inaccurate, citing Italy’s lower performance in terms of productivity and the UK’s lower public debt.
