About 700 people mobilized “in error” were sent home from the training center in the city of Elani, located in the Sverdlovsk Region in the Ural Mountains region, State Duma deputy Maksym Ivanov told Meduza.

Ivanov reported that about 300 people were mobilized “illegally”, another 400 were diagnosed with diseases that prevent them from performing military service.

Ivanov stated that the incident was the result of poor work by the military commissions. Because of this, “military personnel in Elan are distracted from their work and lose time for additional inspections of the mobilized.”

Among those sent home are people with artificial heart valves, autism spectrum disorders, AIDS, as well as full-time students, he told Kommersant-Ural.

Since the start of the mobilization, the media across Russia have repeatedly reported on several people who were called to arms, even though they did not fit.

The Russian authorities attribute this recruitment to poor activity on the ground.

Four people died at the training center in Elan

At the beginning of October, President Vladimir Putin publicly demanded to “correct all mistakes” and “send those who were unjustly involved home.”

Since then, there have been reports of recruitment abuses.

Four new recruits died in the training center in Elan. Authorities said one of them died of an attack, another committed suicide and a third “died of cirrhosis of the liver” after being sent home.

A fourth recruit died of heart problems.
