His imprisoned critic Kremlin, Alexey Navalnystated today that he was once again put in solitary confinement for 14 days for refusing to wash the wall.
In a Twitter message posted through his lawyer, Navalny said he was being sent back to the solitary confinement he had just left and remained there for minor violations of prison rules.
“So I’m in isolation again. I just stayed there for 12 days and they give me 14 days again. The reason is that I refused to wash the wall. I understand that painting the wall and feeling like Tom Sawyer is fun. But washing the wall – this, in my opinion, is generally nonsense, ”Navalny wrote in his message.
Navalny, Russia’s most outspoken critic of President Vladimir Putin, is serving an 11.5 year prison sentence after pleading guilty to violating probation, fraud and contempt of court. He says all the charges against him were fabricated as a pretext to stifle dissent and hinder his political ambitions.
Russia’s Federal Penitentiary Service did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
On September 23, Navalny was placed in solitary confinement for the fifth time. The prison administration bluntly told the Russian politician that he had been placed in solitary confinement because he “talked about conscription at a previous trial,” Navalny’s press secretary, Kira Jarmis, said at the time.
Navalny first ended up in solitary confinement on 25 August. As he stated at the time, because “the top button on his prisoner’s uniform was systematically undone.” The second time Navalny reported that he was in solitary confinement on August 24, because “for three seconds he had no hands behind his back.” The third time he was “locked up” the next morning, although he had been released from solitary confinement the night before. “They don’t hide at all that I won’t get out of this hole after that,” Navalny said. The fourth time he ended up in solitary confinement on 7 September.
