Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov on Monday accused Washington and the West in general of using Ukraine as an “instrument of war” against Russia, comparing it to Germany’s actions against the USSR in World War II.
“The United States has now subjugated almost the entire collective West, mobilizing it to turn Ukraine into an instrument of war against Russia, just as at one time Hitler armed most of the countries of Europe to attack the Soviet Union,” Sergey Lavrov said at the plenary session of the Russian of the parliament, at the ratification meeting on the accession of four Ukrainian regions to Russia, EFE and Agerpres news agencies report.
In addition, the head of Russian diplomacy believes that the US will show hypocrisy because it accuses Russia of starting “unprovoked aggression against Ukraine”, he said that Washington used fabricated arguments to invade countries such as Haiti or Panama or to start wars in Vietnam, Iraq or Libya.
“The Americans simply ignored the resolutions of the UN General Assembly, which condemn these and other aggressive actions of the USA. It went in one ear and out the other,” Lavrov said.
Lavrov: Moscow, unlike the USA and NATO, “does not react to threats created in distant countries”
Unlike the USA and NATO, which bombed Yugoslavia, destroyed Iraq and brought chaos to Libya, Moscow “does not react to threats from distant countries”, the head of Russian diplomacy also stated in his speech at the plenary session of the State Duma.
He also believes that, as in the case of Germany’s attack on the USSR in 1941, “the current plans of the West will not be implemented.”
In another speech last month at the UN General Assembly, Lavrov spoke of the “unprecedented Russophobia” of the West.
“Declaring himself the winner of the Cold War, Washington almost made himself God’s messenger on Earth, without any obligations, but with the sacred right to act with impunity anywhere and anytime,” Lavrov said in his speech.
“Official Russophobia in the West is unprecedented, its scale is grotesque. They do not hesitate to declare their intention not only to inflict a military defeat on our country (in Ukraine), but also to destroy Russia,” the Russian minister said.
