“The signing ceremony will take place tomorrow (not on Friday),” Peskov said at the daily telephone press conference.

He added that the ceremony will take place in the St. George’s Hall of the Grand Kremlin Palace at 3:00 p.m. local time (12:00 GMT) and that the agreements will be signed “with all four territories that held referendums and made relevant requests.” the Russian side”.

Peskov also said that on Friday, after the ceremony of signing the annexation agreements, Putin will make a “comprehensive speech” and meet with Moscow-appointed administrators of Ukrainian regions.

The leaders of Ukraine’s four Russian-controlled separatist regions arrived in Moscow on Wednesday night for the ceremony, following the release of the final results of illegal referendums organized by Russia in Donetsk, Luhansk, Kherson and Zaporizhia, which Kyiv condemned as “simulacra”. and the West.

It will be recalled that on September 20, the occupation authorities established by the Russians in the territories controlled by them in these regions of Ukraine coordinated and announced the holding of referendums on unification with Moscow after months of speculation on this matter.

International reaction to the annexation of Ukrainian territories

Since their announcement, the organization of these referendums has been strongly condemned by the United States and several European heads of state.

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said that “these sham referendums” are “unacceptable” and that “it is very clear that these sham referendums are not subject to international law”.

“This is all just an attempt at imperialist aggression, which they will dress up like that,” he added in a speech at the UN General Assembly.

French President Emmanuel Macron called the announcement of referendums in four Ukrainian territories a “parody”, saying that they “will have no legal consequences” and will not be recognized by the international community.

“If the idea of a referendum in Donbas was not so tragic, it would be funny,” Macron said.

Instead, US President Joe Biden promised a “quick and tough” response to Russia’s new annexation of some Ukrainian territories after the illegal annexation of Crimea in 2014, as well as the organization of a so-called referendum after Moscow’s armed forces occupied the peninsula. .

“Referendums are a deception, a false pretext for an attempt to forcibly annex part of Ukraine,” the US president said on September 24.
