According to the Ukrainian commander of the occupied region, Russian servicemen and Lugansk Russophiles began to pack up and leave for Russia ahead of the Ukrainian offensive.
After the defeat and surrender of many cities in the Kharkiv region, especially after the liberation of Kupyansk and Izyum by the Ukrainian army, there is a continuous stream of Russophiles from the Luhansk region to the border with Russia, including even some Russian military personnel, according to the Ukrainian commander of the Luhansk region, Sergei Gaidai.
According to Ukraine’s state news agency, even locals in Lugansk are reporting huge convoys of cars leaving the regional capital.
According to the Ukrainian leadership of the region, some Russophile militants who fought in the Kharkiv region and were forced out by the advancing Ukrainian army organized a rally near a military unit in their homeland with the participation of many relatives of soldiers.
“In Luhansk, the families of conscripts held a gathering under the walls of a military unit after they had recently escaped from Balakliya, barely alive, and wanted to be immediately sent to other positions in the so-called DPR. [την αυτοαποκαλούμενη Λαϊκή Δημοκρατία του Ντονέτσκ]. The protesters were supported by relatives who made their way under the walls of the building,” Gaidai wrote on Telegram.
According to him, after the liberation of the Kharkiv region and after several days of silence, representatives of the occupation authorities began to spread propaganda stories of a “pacifying” nature. “The occupation authorities in the region suddenly began to declare that “the situation is under control,” wrote the Ukrainian head of the Luhansk region.
The occupying authorities in Luhansk are already acknowledging that Ukrainian missiles are hitting targets in the region, and four HIMARS missiles have reportedly hit the Lisitsan region in the past few hours.
