
Former President of Brazil Luis Inacio Lula da SilvaThe 76-year-old minister is 11 percentage points ahead of the incumbent head of state ahead of the first round of the October 2 presidential election, but the far-right president Zach Bolsonaro67, cut it another two points, according to a survey by reporting institute Datafolha released on Friday.
According to this rolling poll, Lula is credited with 45% of voting intentions (unchanged from the previous version of the poll taken on 1 September), while Mr. Bolsonaro has increased his share to 34% (+2%).
The gap between the former president and the incumbent, which was 21 points in May, continues to shrink. In December it reached 29 points.
If the second round takes place on October 30, Lula will win with 53% of the vote against 39% of the Brazilian far-right leader. The centre-left leader’s gap before the second round was reduced by one point in a week, from 15 to 14.
The approval and disapproval ratings for Mr. Bolsonaro’s performance as president are unchanged from last week (31% and 42% respectively).
The Datafolia poll was conducted through face-to-face interviews with a representative sample of 2,676 voters on September 8 and 9. The allowable statistical error is ±2%.
