its president Ukrainian, Vladimir Zelenskyannounced today that her new prime minister Britannia, Liz Trusswas “always on the enlightened side of European politics” and that Kyiv looked forward to strengthening cooperation between the two countries during her Downing Street days.

“We know her well in Ukraine. She has always been on the enlightened side of European politics,” Zelenskiy said of Truss in a video-recorded speech after praising her predecessor, Boris Johnson.

“I believe that together we can do more to protect our peoples and to defeat Russia’s destructive efforts,” the Ukrainian president said.

Earlier today, Boris Johnson had a telephone conversation with Volodymyr Zelensky, his last British prime minister, in which he stressed that the Ukrainians could win the war against the Russian occupiers and expressed his confidence that they would. At the same time, he assured Zelensky that they would remain in touch as friends.
