David Popovich’s obsession is to be the greatest swimmer in history

Popovici (who turns 18 on Sept. 15) said the idea of becoming the fastest swimmer in history motivates him in training, even when he’s going through tough times.

“Every day I am motivated by the idea of being the best of all time and achieving this status in the shortest possible time. I want to be the world champion, the undisputed champion! These are the things that sometimes motivate me. For example, when I get bored during training.

But what really motivates me all the time, day and night, when I don’t want to wake up early for a workout or when the water in the pool is cold, is just my obsession. My obsession is to be the best, the fastest. It’s something I’ve always had in me. And luckily, I have all the resources to make this obsession a reality.

I don’t know where I heard this saying, but it goes like this: find your obsession and keep pursuing it! This is what I do. I’m willing to make the necessary sacrifices for my obsession, I’m willing to work hard, not just hard, but hard, in a smart way. Also, I have full confidence in my staff, in the people who make up my training program” – Davyd Popovychin an interview with SwimSwam.

David Popovici, a message for Romanians after a year in which he took the swimming world by storm

Fighter David Popovich wants to get as many opponents as possible

Competitive by nature, David said he wanted his records broken so he could set new ones.

“I want to have as many opponents as possible. I want people to break my world record, I want me to break that record again, and I want to go in the water with the record holders. I can’t say if anyone will break my records, but I can promise that I will improve my time. I don’t think about world records.

Before I broke the 100m in Rome, I had no idea that the current record had stood for 13 years and that only someone really special could break it. I didn’t think so. I just thought I wanted to have the best time possible. I knew I could beat the time I set.

And this time became a new world record. But, again, I’m not necessarily looking for world records. We, me and my team, know that I have potential, that I can progress, so yes, I’m looking forward to the challenges!” – Davyd Popovych.
