UPDATE 11:30 p.m Artem Bardin would not have died during the attack on his car, reports the Russian state news agency RIA Novosti with reference to Mykola Miroshnichenko, head of the health care department of the occupation administration in Berdyansk. He lost both legs and is now fighting for his life, reports the Russian state news agency TASS. Earlier, the Russian state media, citing the occupation authorities, reported that Bardin had died.

“In the very center of the city of Berdyansk, near the building of the military-civilian administration, the car of Commandant Artem Bardin was blown up. After the explosion, the commandant was hospitalized in serious condition,” the local mayor’s office reported on the Telegram channel.

She said that the explosion damaged three more cars, in which there was no one. The Russian-installed occupation authorities say that Ukraine is responsible for the attack.

Soon after the explosion, a video appeared on social networks showing the commander’s burning car.

The explosion of Bardin’s car took place after Oleksandr Kolesnikov, deputy chief of the Berdyansk traffic police, was killed in an explosion near his residence on August 26. He died from his injuries.

The city of Berdyansk is located in the Zaporizhzhia region, east of Kherson, where the Ukrainian Armed Forces launched a counteroffensive last week.

Since the offensive began last Monday, the Ukrainian armed forces have carried out several strikes on ammunition depots in Zaporizhzhia, and it is possible that Ukrainian guerrillas are coordinating with the military command in Kyiv in carrying out these attacks against the Russian occupiers.
