Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Wednesday that Russia had lost nothing from its military campaign in Ukraine, while the West had failed, as a futile and aggressive attempt to isolate Russia with sanctions was destroying the global economy and Asia was benefiting.
All of Russia’s actions were aimed at strengthening Russia’s sovereignty and were aimed at “helping the people” living in Donbas in eastern Ukraine, the Kremlin leader said at an economic forum in Vladivostok on Wednesday.
In a speech at the Eastern Economic Forum in Vladivostok, Putin said the pandemic had been replaced by other challenges and that the West had undermined the world economy through an “aggressive” attempt to impose its dominance on the entire world.
- “I mean the sanctions fever of the West with its shameless and aggressive attempt to impose models of behavior on other countries, deprive them of their sovereignty and subjugate them to their will.
- There is nothing unusual about this. This is the policy that the West has been pursuing collectively for decades.
- The countries of the West seek to preserve the former world order, beneficial only to them, to force everyone to live by the infamous rules that they themselves invented and regularly violate, rules that they constantly change to suit themselves depending on the current circumstances,” Putin said.
Sanctions, “lack of vision”
The Russian president said Western sanctions were short-sighted and dangerous for the world, which he said was increasingly turning to Asia as Russia took advantage of the exodus of foreign companies.
“In the spring, many foreign corporations rushed to leave Russia, believing that our country will suffer from this more than others. But now we see how productions and workplaces are closing one after another in Europe. One of the main reasons for this is, of course, the severing of business ties with Russia. The competitiveness of European businesses is falling as EU authorities deprive them of available raw materials, energy resources and markets.”
“In an attempt to resist the flow of history, Western countries are undermining the key pillars of the world economic system built over centuries. In our view, dependence on the dollar, euro and pound sterling as currencies in which we gradually move away from the use of such dangerous, self-discrediting currencies.”
Putin also said the Russian economy was coping with what he called Western financial and technological aggression, but acknowledged some difficulties in some industries and regions.
Vladimir Putin also said that Russia has done everything possible so that Ukraine can export grain, but the problems on the world food market will worsen and a humanitarian disaster is looming.
