Canadian police said on Monday that one of two suspects in Sunday’s series of knife attacks in Canada was found dead in one of the communities where the killings took place.
Damien Sanderson, 31, had “obvious injuries” on his body. Found in the James Smith Cree Neison community.
Another suspect, his 30-year-old brother Miles Sanderson, is at large and is also believed to have been injured, police said during a news conference.
Two white brothers are being charged with killing 10 people and injuring 19 others in two remote Aboriginal communities in central Canada.
Miles Sanderson may need a doctor, according to Rhonda Blackmore, deputy director of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police.
“Hundreds” of police are on a manhunt to find and arrest him across three provinces (Saskatchewan, Alberta, Manitoba).
Sunday’s attacks in Saskatchewan were among the deadliest in modern Canadian history.
Among the first victims named by Canadian authorities were a mother of two, a 77-year-old widow, a 14-year-old boy and an ambulance worker.
According to authorities, two suspects allegedly attacked some of the victims, while others were attacked in what appeared to be a random attack.
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has criticized the fact that Sunday-like attacks have become “too commonplace” in the country.
