More than 100 fish have died after someone poured dishwashing liquid into a fountain in a British seaside town, causing huge foam.
A water feature in the Esplanade Gardens in Hunstanton Beach was vandalized over the weekend.
Vacationers, residents and municipal employees cleaned the fountain for six hours, removing foam, pumping out water and removing dead fish.
The representative of the local City Council spoke about criminal anesthesia. “Historically, there has always been fish. The Council has never stocked fish in the area, it has always been done by the public,” Chris Durham said. He added that now they would not be able to fill it with more fish.
The crime was reported to the police, who, along with advice, turned to anyone with information.
Hunstanton, like many other seaside areas in the UK, saw huge crowds over the weekend, marking the last three days of summer as a public holiday on Monday. Thus, it is considered possible that someone or several possibly drunken guests of the city ruined the fountain.
