Two employees of the Russian-controlled Zaporizhzhya nuclear power plant were detained for passing information to Ukrainian authorities, the Russian National Guard and an official representative stationed in the region said on Wednesday.
The National Guard said in a statement that it prevented what it called “illegal actions” that threatened the plant’s security and arrested two plant employees, as well as a third person who allegedly violated plant access procedures and cooperated with the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
The Zaporozhye nuclear power plant, the largest in Europe, was seized by Russian troops in March. It remains not far from the front lines of the war, and recent explosions around it have raised fears of a nuclear disaster. Both Russia and Ukraine accuse each other of bombing the plant.
Images of several Russian military trucks parked in the engine room connected to the Zaporizhzhya NPP nuclear reactor began to circulate on social media.
The American TV channel CNN carried out geolocation and confirmed that the video recording of Russian military equipment on the territory of the Zaporizhzhia plant is authentic, but they could not determine when it was taken.
