Ukraine has accused Russia, the world’s biggest wheat exporter, of stealing grain from territories the Russian military seized after Moscow moved troops into Ukraine on February 24. Moscow denies this.

The Russian-controlled part of Zaporizhzhia transports up to 5,000 tons of grain per day by rail and 1,500 to 2,000 tons per day by road, the head of the Russian administration in the region Yevhen Balitsky reported on social media.

He did not specify where the exports go.

According to him, supplies should increase when the Russian-controlled Ukrainian port of Berdyansk on the Sea of Azov will soon start transshipping grain.

“The problem is about to be solved, and we will also start loading dry cargo to Turkey. Farmers will be able to sell grain to Turkey, Saudi Arabia, the Middle East, Egypt – standard markets,” added Balytskyi.

Reuters could not verify this information.

In July, Balytskyi. stated that the Russian-controlled part of Zaporozhye had reached agreements to sell grain to Iraq, Iran and Saudi Arabia.

The territory has collected 1.5 million tons of grain, Balytskyi said on Saturday, adding that he has yet to receive fertilizer for the next planting season.
