Volodymyr Solovyov, the Kremlin’s most famous propagandist, announced on Thursday on his Telegram channel that the authorities of the Republic of Moldova have sent a special police brigade to the Russian-speaking region of Gagauzia “to suppress anti-government protests”, reports Deschide. md and Agerpres.
Solovyov refers to Gagauz sources who claim that the authorities of Chisinau have sent the Fulger special police brigade to the autonomous region to “suppress some anti-government demonstrations that have been taking place in the region for several weeks.”
In this regard, Solovyov refers to the Telegram channel from Gagauzia, which supports Russian aggression in Ukraine and expects that Russian troops will reach the borders of the Republic of Moldova as soon as possible, reports Deschide.md.
According to one of the pro-Russian sources quoted by him, “the leadership (of Moldova) is afraid that the situation will get out of control, so it decided to introduce special forces into the region.”
Kishinev refutes Solovyov’s “information”.
The police of Moldova denied the information presented by Solovyov in a press release.
“With reference to information circulating on the Internet about the deployment of IGP’s Fulger special police brigade in Comrat (not the capital of Gagauzia), we clarify that it is about some tactical exercises that were organized regularly. to check the reaction and ability of employees to intervene,” the press release states.
“Such training will be held throughout the country. We ask citizens to be informed from reliable sources and to remain calm, as it is about the training of our unit with a special status, which takes place constantly,” he emphasizes.
Tensions between Russia and the Republic of Moldova
Moscow was concerned about the measures taken by Chisinau after the start of the Russian invasion of Ukraine on February 24 to limit the spread of Russian disinformation in the media of the Republic of Moldova, banning the websites of Sputnik and Gagauznews just two days after the start of the “special military operation”.
The military aggression launched by Vladimir Putin at the end of February further strained relations between Chisinau and Moscow in the context of the pro-European government led by Maia Sandu signing a declaration to join the European Union in March.
Also in March, the Republic of Moldova successfully connected to the European power grid, disconnecting from the Russian one.
In April and May, several provocations took place in the separatist region of Transnistria on the territory of the Republic of Moldova, which President Maia Sandu stated in an exclusive interview with HotNews.ro that they will work for foreign interests.
