British Defense Secretary Ben Wallace said on Thursday that it was unlikely that Russian President Vladimir Putin would ever win the war in Ukraine as the Kremlin leader’s army “started to fail in several areas”, DPA reported, citing Agerpres. A British official says that Putin was counting on the fact that eventually the international community would give in and stop providing aid to the country led by Volodymyr Zelensky.
Ben Wallace said Russia’s invasion of Ukraine had “waned” and was “starting to fail” as he pledged more financial and military support to defend Ukraine.
Denmark joined the United Kingdom in increasing aid to Ukraine at a conference in Copenhagen on Thursday, co-chaired by Ben Wallace.
Britain’s defense secretary said it was important to understand that fighting and casualties were still ongoing, but added that Russia was “starting to fail in many areas”.
“So far they have failed and it is unlikely that they will ever succeed in occupying Ukraine,” he added.
“Their invasion has weakened and is constantly being modified to the point where it is concentrated only in parts of the south and east, away from the so-called special three-day operation,” Wallace said.
“Three days is more than 150 days and almost six months, with huge losses of both equipment and, in fact, Russian personnel,” the British defense minister also said.
“President Putin made a bet that as soon as August comes (…) we will all get tired of the conflict and the international community will go in different directions. Today is proof of the opposite,” said Strakhov.
Ukraine will continue to receive aid
“We came out of this meeting with greater financial commitments, greater training and military aid commitments, all aimed at helping Ukraine win, helping Ukraine fight for its sovereignty, and ensuring that President Putin’s ambitions fail in To Ukraine, as it should be,” — Wallace. said
The London-based defense minister also said that allies will soon have to buy weapons from other countries or “place orders with factories to increase the supply of ammunition to Ukraine” as their own reserves run out.
The Ministry of Defense has previously confirmed that it will send more weapons to Ukraine to defend against a Russian invasion. These include salvo fire systems, as well as high-precision missiles that can hit targets at a distance of 80 km, designed to protect against Russian heavy artillery.
“Our continued support sends a very clear message: the UK and the international community continue to oppose this illegal war and will support Ukraine with defensive military assistance to defend itself against Putin’s invasion,” he added.
