Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyi on Thursday told government officials to stop talking to journalists about Kyiv’s military tactics against Russia, saying such remarks were “irresponsible,” Reuters reported.

Following the massive explosions that destroyed a Russian air base in Crimea on Tuesday, The New York Times and The Washington Post quoted officials on condition of anonymity as saying that Ukrainian forces were responsible for destroying the airfield.

The government in Kyiv, on the other hand, refused to say whether it was behind the explosions.

“War is definitely not a time for vanity and loud statements. The less you divulge details about our defense plans, the better it will be for the implementation of these defense plans,” Zelenskyy said in a video message to the daily to the nation.

“If you want to generate loud headlines, it’s irresponsible. If you want Ukraine’s victory, that’s something else, and you should be aware of your responsibility for every word you say about the defense or counteroffensive plans of our state,” Zelenskyy said.

Zelenskyy addressed state, local and military officials, as well as others, and, according to him, told about the events at the front.

Images released by independent satellite company Planet Labs show three nearly identical craters where buildings at the air base were hit.

The charred corpses of at least eight destroyed combat aircraft were clearly visible.
