Asked about Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s offer to mediate peace talks, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters on a conference call that Vladimir Putin and Volodymyr Zelenskyi could meet only after negotiators from both sides “do their homework.”

Negotiations between Moscow and Kyiv have been deadlocked for months, with each side blaming the other for the lack of progress.

“The Ukrainian delegation has disappeared from the radar, there is no negotiation process now,” Peskov said on Monday.

“As for the meeting between Presidents Putin and Zelensky, it is possible only after both delegations have completed all their homework. This is not the case, so there are no prerequisites for the meeting,” said Peskov.

Erdogan offered to act as a mediator in the summit between Zelensky and Putin

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said on Saturday that he offered Vladimir Putin to hold talks with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyi in Turkey.

“Despite the difficulties, I also maintain a firm belief that this crisis will be resolved at the negotiating table,” Erdogan said, referring to the war launched by Russia in Ukraine, Kyiv Independent reports citing Turkish media.

Zelenskyi has repeatedly rejected any negotiations with Russia.
