Among the first Russian propagandists who reacted to the explosions at the air base in Crimea on Tuesday were the head of the Russia Today TV channel Margarita Simonyan and one of the most famous presenters of the Rossiya-1 TV channel Olga Skabaeva.
Dubbed Putin’s “iron doll”, Skabayeva simply wrote on her Telegram channel that there were “too many” explosions, appearing frightened by the situation.
It was Olga Skabayeva who made the rounds of the international press at the end of April, when she was a guest on the show of Volodymyr Solovyov, who is considered the favorite propagandist of Russian President Vladimir Putin, and said that:
“(The West) declared war on us. What are we waiting for? We will have to conduct a special NATO demilitarization operation.”
A month later, she raised the topic of “NATO demilitarization” again, declaring this time in the show she hosts on “Russia-1” that “we are forced to demilitarize not only Ukraine, but also all of NATO.”
In another broadcast at the end of May, a Russian deputy from President Vladimir Putin’s United Russia party suggested kidnapping the defense minister of one of the NATO member states and bringing him to Moscow for questioning on the West’s “order” to Kyiv.
Russian propagandists ignore the line drawn by the Ministry of Defense
Margarita Simonyan also briefly reacted to the news about the bombing of Crimea by the Ukrainian armed forces, asking “again. Where are you, red line?”.
Representatives of the Russian state media seem genuinely shocked by the explosions that just took place in Crimea (reportedly at a military airfield).
Olga Skabeyeva says that the attack was “a complete choice”

It may be referring to a statement by Russian President Vladimir Putin last November, when he said that the expansion of NATO’s military infrastructure in Ukraine was a “red line” for Russia.
It is not yet clear whether the Novofedorivka air base was struck by HIMARS systems delivered to Ukraine by the United States, or by M270 launchers that arrived from Britain. However, the base is far from the front line.
But it is interesting that both Skabaeva and Simonyan seem to ignore the official statements of the Ministry of Defense in Moscow, which claim that the explosions at the military base were caused by the detonation of aircraft munitions.
The Russian military also stated that there was no shelling and military equipment was not damaged.
